The original Blakes company was incorporated in 1898 and named "The Algicide Company". Operating out of Gosport in Hampshire, Blakes' main business was to supply paints and antifoulings to The Navy. Blakes remained in private ownership until 1986 and was purchased in 1993 by Hempel Paints who are one of the largest privately owned paint companies in the World.
Today's Hempel products are not only used for yachts and ships, but also for the protection of drilling rigs, containers, industrial plants, tanks, buildings, etc. This ensures that all Blakes products benefit from the technical expertise and quality of raw materials that goes into the development of such advanced coatings.
Hempel and Blakes yacht paints are produced to the highest standards, with the primary aim of meeting the demands of the marine environment. Because their paints are made for extreme conditions, they can also be the best choice for many of the tough jobs around your home and garden.
